Trap in Budapest Gambit Opening #1

I am studying Budapest Gambit opening for black. Recently I have encountered a line where white played 3. d5 instead of the main line 3. dxe5. Play usually proceeds as follows: 3. ...Bc5 4. Nf3 d6.

In one of my recent games my opponent played 5. Bg5?. Can you see why this was an opening trap blunder?

Hi, and welcome to the budapest group!

I think Bxf2 is the better move as well. I lost one game with Ne4 - I won some pawns but then was pushed off the board rather quickly...!

    To forrie:

    5. ...Ne4 can be met with 6. Be3 , effectively neutralizing the threat but White would have a much worse pawn stucture.

thanks for showing us! I am busy to play against the budapest right now in a match game.

5...Ne4 also looks interesting 6. Qc1 Bxf2+ 7. Kd1 and i think your solution is better and simpler
