Saturday Night...

Ah yes, Saturday night. The loneliest night of this website. Here I am in the heart of Texas on a Saturday night and no one to play with. I'm the only chesser with no life. Oh sure, I have a job, roof over my head with the A/C set at 75, groceries in the pantry, gas in the tank, pretty girlfriend with a job, a car and her own place, healthy children, and Mom and Dad still here with me. I'll be 40 in December, so you may imagine that these days home is where I like to be on a Saturday night. Or as some people refer to New Year's Eve, amateur night. I give the same moniker these days to the two nights a week that some people will just absolutely indulge in uncharacteristic behavior. Now, I used to be in this group of society. Taking unnecessary risks, being in unnecessary places, accompanied by unnecessary people. Until I discovered that chess is the best kept secret to a wonderful pasttime. Thank you chess, for saving my life. Thank you chess.com for giving me a forum to share my most random thoughts. And they are pretty random ! To me, chess is life. My Queen at my side, or not. I just may want to trade her once in a while. I've lost her to the other side at times of carelessness. Then I have my posse pushing the front-line ahead for that elusive conquest. Every now and then I'm fortunate enough to steal the other man's Lady without risking my most coveted asset. But duty lies ahead, a mission to be accomplished. No time for gloating in one's own achievements. Until the other man is no longer standing or he submits, there is always work to be done. Just not on Saturday night...
