Need A Teacher!

Submitted by Animals on Tue, 07/29/2008 at 9:40pm.

Hey I am looking for a chess teacher that will take teaching me serious and not just saying yes to be nice and never go through with it. I am also looking for the lessons to be free. If you have any helpful advice that would be cool and I would appreciate it. If you thinking about and want to know anything about my chess style or whatever then just send me a message or check out my games.

Hi I could maybe teach you some if you'd like to, I am though not a formal coach or a extremely good player but I think that I at least have some knowledge to share. If you are interested do I propose that you challange me to an UNRATED game and I will guide you through it, later I might make a forum or two to let you learn crucial facts about chess.

I don't have time to be a personal coach, but an 1100 should be focusing on:

Tactics - This is the most important area of study until 1450 or so. A good rule of thumb is to spend at least 10-15 minutes/day studying tactical puzzles. A book that organizes positions by motif (forks, pins, etc) is better to start with.

Strategy - I just started a weekly series called The Strategy of 'My System'. Tune in!  :)

Endgames - You need to know K+Q vs K and K+R vs K very well. If you're ambitious, also learn K+P vs K. There are some good endgame tutorials here.

Openings - You should know your first 2-3 moves as White, Black against d4, and Black against e4. The idea is not to memorize lines, but to play similar positions in your games so over time you get familiar with them.

If you get a coach, make sure they're rated at least 400 points above you.
