12 steps for fun...

Submitted by BEXTERDOGG on Mon, 02/23/2009 at 6:34pm.

Step 1. I have admitted that I am powerless over my addiction...that my game load was unmanageable.

Step 2. Came to believe that my power cord could restore my laptop's battery.

Step 3. Made a decision to turn on my computer and turn my life over to the game of chess...as I understood it.

Step 4. Made a searching and fearless inventory of my material.

Step 5. Admitted to my opponent and myself a defeat, even though I still push for a win.

Step 6.I am entirely ready to remove my opponents material.

Step 7. I have often asked God to help my opponent not remove mine.

Step 8. Made a list of all the people who have defeated me and asked for a rematch.

Step 9. Arranged a rematch whenever possible, even if it took me into the wee hours of the night to finish.

Step 10. Continued to keep current on my games, and played live chess whenever there were no moves to make.

Step 11. Sought through the chess mentor, the computer workout and free on-line books to improve my chess game, as I understood it, and prayed for the free time to implement my knowledge.

Step 12. Having an intellectual awakening as a result of these steps, I have tried to teach my children chess, and referred my friends to chess.com, and use the principles of what I have learned in my everyday life.

Dear  rebecca,   my name is  tony,  i am  a retired police chief from near atlantic city new jersey.   I AM  PARALYZED FROM  A STROKE I HAD IN 2002.  I'M  NOT GREAT AT  CHESS, BUT HAVE MANY GREAT PEOPLE ON THIS SITE THAT HAVE BEEN HELPING ME IMPROVE MY GAME

MY FIRST CHOICE WAS  POOL, OF WHICH I WAS  PRETTY GOOD,  BUT SINCE I CAN STRAIGHTEN MY LEFT ARM TO MAKE A  BRIDGE,  SO  I  HAVE  GONE BACK TO CHESS TO TRY TO IMPROVE  MY  GAME

I  AM  OLD ENOUGH TO BE YOUR  FATHER,  SO  DON'T THINK  THAT I WOULD  ATTEMPT  ANYTHING IMPROPER EXCEPT TO  PLAY CHESS.

WHEN I WAS  WELL, I TAUGHT  SEVERAL MARTIAL ARTS OF WHICH I WAS INVOLVED IN FOR OVER  35  YEARS   BEING  GOJU KARATE,  KODOKAN JUDO

AIKIDO,  PHILIPINO STICK AND KNIFE FIGHTING.  I  ALSO  WAS  A POLICE TRAINING COORDINATOR AT OUR LOCAL POLICE ACADEMY  FROM  1998 TO 2002 WHEN I HAD TO RESIGN DUE TO MY  STROKE.

I  NOW  WORK SIX MONTHS OUT OF A YEAR PARTIME AT  OUR LOCAL COUNTY PARK  AND  ZOO.

                                              THANK  YOU  TONY  SOLIS

God, Grant me the serenity to resign the games I should....
The knowledge and courage to win the ones I can...
And the wisdom to know the difference...

Best Variation of the Oath I have seen in a very long time.

Kudos, Queen Bex.

Wow, you must be a great GM or IM, you should get a reward for great thinking, maybe you could get Al's after the ice age starts.  John (Panmumu)

Nice. You should be in the Chessaholics Anonymous club, where we've been devoloping a similar 12 step listing. Perhaps we could adopt yours instead.
