A Very Interesting Game

Submitted by BasicLvrCH8r on Sun, 10/19/2008 at 11:23am.

Here is a game from a tournament I played in yesterday. It was round 6 of 6. I was 4 for 5, and paired against a 2000 rated player. He normally stays at board one, but there was an upset round 2, and he lost. This game was an English. On Move 12, I played a questionable move which led to an interesting game. What is your opinion of my 12th move?

Agreed, Rxe5 would have been much better.

Well played for playing somebody 900 points above you.

That was grammatically incorrect and thus made no sense.

I lose every time win I play Black and if I play White, I win most of the time.

Try playing against Fritz as black with 20... Rxb7.

Okay Peter.  I ran the game by Fritz.  After Bf4, you could have played Nh5 and picked up a solid pawn after Bxf3 and Nxd4.  Fritz thinks that Nxd4 was a whammy on your position and that you should have played either rook to d8, piling up on the d4 pawn, with a good opportunity to win it back.  Then the position is equal.  Fritz thinks that Chris is two pawns to the better after his wonderful exchange sac.  Keep it up!

Well played; a game to be proud of, esp against such a high rater.

I'm not so sure Ne4 was a mistake.

I think 20 ...Rxe5, rather than 20 ...Rxb7, might have won you the game.

If I were you, I would post this as a forum.  I think Ne4 was a mistake, but that was some nice calculation to see that you could win an exchange.  Even though you missed Bxb7, you still played pretty well.  It happens.
