AN IQP GONE BAD

Key Points:

1) In playing an IQP, Avoid Exchanges and Occupy the c- and e- files with rooks.  2) A misstep by Lowenthal Loses the game as Black uses deflection to win material.

Thanks LF. Consider yourself getting a preview of a future post at my blogspot home. Currently I sidestepped the London 1851 for a brief moment in brevity about the cult of  Knights Errant as a response to the rant on Elizabeth's blog.

Both players were estimated to be around 2500 ELO at the time of this match, but I'm not impressed by Loewenthal's play during this game. Also, with the White pieces, I would have expected him to aim for something more dynamic than a drawish branch of the exchange variation. You would never guess that these games came from the romantic era of chess! At least things heat up quickly after White creates an IQP with 8.c4!? dxc4 9.Bxc4. Good commentary. I wrote my own annotations before reading yours and was going to share them, but Chessbase crashed at an unfortunate moment.  ;)
