Clearly you've never done any research on the subject, Bo.  Understandable.  Refusing to acknowledge the truth is the only way you can keep entertaining your false belief.

What do you mean, Na3?  That statement is ambiguous.  Do you mean that 1.d4 is more popular among masters than it is among beginners, or it's more popular among masters than 1.e4?

The first statement is very true, and it relates to the kinds of middlegames that tend to result from each between similarly skilled players.  Properly fought queen's pawn games are more likely to develop into closed middlegames, where positional and spatial considerations take center stage, and games with more hypermodern dynamics, which novices are invariably advised to stay away from until they've gained more experience (and rightly so).  Simply put, the basics of king's pawn opening theory are easier to grasp than the basics of queen's pawn opening theory.

The second statement is false.  If that's what you meant, then I'm sorry.

actually d4 is more popular among stronger rated people(GMs and IMs). it's only the big amount of beginners that bring e4 up

So now you can rejoice, because the "great debate about d4 and e4" was already solved to begin with.

Count as many of the people who bother to respond to this thread as you want.  In the real world, e4 has consistently beaten d4 hands down.

Yeah, but White's side of the Sicilian is kind of like history class: those who do not learn in it are doomed to repeat it!

d4 is much too defensively minded.  Who cares if your pawn push is defended when you have the initiative of the first move?

    1.e4!

I play d4 ... but many people say e4 is better as it is a more aggressive opening ... but i never opened with e4 before because when i learnt i used it as a quick checkmate opening against weaker players

d4 too much theory on e4 and never start a game by pushing out an undefended pawn
