Playing People

Submitted by Chessman22 on Sun, 09/02/2007 at 7:42pm.

I was just thinking about something. I wish I could play GMs or IMs. That'd be fun. I just saw the title to an article labeled something like "so what if computers are better than humans?" Wrong. No, humans are better than computers. Humans have flexibility in thought, for one. One famous example(who hasn't heard about it) was when Kasparov(or whoever) defeated Deep Blue? What do you think?

I think Kasparov got stomped. Go rent the movie Game Over- Kasparov versus the machine. Did you know that the GMs that play the computers are given the programmed openings ahead of time to memorize and the computers are handicapped to thinking time etc.

Humans are humans and computers are computers are computers. I guess we think we're stronger than steel, faster than a bullet too. We have limitations. There's no shame in being defeated by a computer. By the way. The program on this site is set at about a 1200 level. My 11 year old whuppps it. Try Fritz or Chessmaster set at it's highest level. You won't stand a chance.
