Time

Just a warning to watch new game requests for time settings.  I just had a game that I know I could not have taken that long to respond to and realized I had lost on time.  The time must have been set really short or something.  I wonder if people are trying to get higher ratings this way...

Oh well.  I suck at chess but I enjoy it and I think I am getting a little better.

Thanks to the ones who stick in there with me and keep playing I might some day improve and even get good at it.

I used to play at Yahoo chess. There, when you accept a challenge you go to a room where you "sit" at a table then click "start." The time control, which you can see when you accept the challenge, is displayed in the room. Sometimes just as you sat down the person would quickly change the time control. You might be expecting to play a 15/0 game and unaware to you, you are really playing a 1 minute game - and you run out of time before your third move.  I know what you're talking about isn't so extreme, but people will do things like that just to win some silly rating points. Go figure.
About sucking at chess - we all suck at chess, believe me. It all depends who our opponent is. No matter how good we get, there are lots of players a lot better and no matter how poor we think we are, there are plenty of players a lot worse. So, just have fun - as it says in the Hokey-Pokey:  That's what it's all about.
