Puzzle - find the 4-move sequence.

Submitted by Dinkydoe on Fri, 09/19/2008 at 7:04am.

Here is a nice non-realistic puzzle. This is a position after black and white played 4 moves. The question is, what moves did black and white play. There is only one possible solution. ( The position can also be reached in 3 moves but both players have to play 4 moves).

It's not an easy one, but for the ones willing to solve, i can give tips.

Haha, no I'm not kidding..it's a real puzzle.  As I said, u probably made a false assumption. Just before I solved it, I also  concluded it was impossible... But I did solve it, although it took me a few hours.

There's only one unique solution.

Funny, how everyone I've shown the puzzle so far, also concluded impossibility..,

and after I've shown the solution they're like:...aaah crap, I'm so stupid:P

Good luck on solving it, I can give a hint...or mail the solution.

Hello my friend,

I am coming to the conclusion that the 4 move puzzle is impossible.

Is this a wind up or is it a real puzzle?

Haha, good luck on the other one, cause it's easy to make a false assumption in analyzing the possibilities. So you'll easily get stuck repeating wrong sequences:P

Hello my friend,

I have solved the 3 move variation,

1 e4-c6, 2 Bc4-e6, 3 Bxe6, dxe6.
