Fare thee well, Chess.com! Until we meet again.

To whom it may concern,

My life is busy (who's isn't?), but it's only going to get busier in the near future. I've stepped back over the last few months and listed out what I'm spending my life on. Juxtaposing that list with a list of what I say is important to me shows a lot of incongruities.

Chess.com has not made my newly developed short list of things that are important for me to spend my time on. This is not to say that the people on Chess.com are not important to me. Just the site and game itself.

As a result, I'm walking away from the site and chess itself for an indeterminate length of time. I could be back in a month (very unlikely), a few years or never again. I won't be closing my account. I just won't be logging in anymore.

I wish you all a fond farewell. I've met some very nice people here. Please don't be offended that I didn't tell this to you personally. There were too many people to notify so I elected to make a public blog post.

I'm going to attempt to do a farewell interview with Kayt "VeggieGirlie" tomorrow so stay tuned for that. However, our track record for getting our technology to properly behave is such that it won't surprise me if it fails. Laughing If you'd like to keep in contact, you may use the following email account: Enormous.Gastropod@gmail.com. I can't guarantee that my responses will be expedient.

Thanks to the Chess.com staff for creating and maintaining this wonderful site and Erik especially for being such a gentleman.

“Sweets to the sweet: farewell!”

I don't think this blog was intended to reach the home page, but it did so because of the number of views. Sometimes you will see it on the front page and sometimes you will not. Normally blogs are not targetted to all the millions of people on the website but just to anyone who knows the blogger. This is a special case where the number of reads is quickly approaching 3000, and since the blog will stay up I guess it will remain permanently stuck on the front page unless someone deletes it manually.

You must think you are a very important person (which you might be) if you have the need to say goodbye to more than 1million member's of this site.

If every one leaving this site made a forum topic out of it, the front page of chess.com would be very long to scroll through. If chess.com  has to be fair, all these goodbye's would have to be on their front page.

As i don't know you as most of the other 1miilion people on this site, I will say goodbye (this make me think of a royal funeral, a postscriptum ,written by the king himself).Sealed

I think that the principle behind the post serves a purpose. We play here and whether we want to or not find ourselves connected in a sense with opponents and allies...

For EG to post a farewell statement is not so much IMHO a reflection of his individual goodbye but a collective one for the many ppl who have had friends leave the site for whatever reason.  Whether they have had conflicts of schedule, found another venue, or bannage, I'm sure that we have all had someone on our friendslist who has closed their account without warning.

Yes, yes, yes, this IS a chess site! I know that...but we have to consider the social aspects of chess.com as well.

    Cheers!

Well goodbye enormous gastropod. I don't know you, but I suppose you are famous and if your story made the front page, you probably are important to the site too, I guess.

Unneccessary to put this as a featured article on the site. Most people have no clue who he/she is, or why such a personal goodbye note should even be posted on the front page of chess.com. Whoever is incharge of the content of this site deserves a good kick in the $%^#.
