Getting Started on Chess.com

Submitted by JerryHobby on Tue, 10/28/2008 at 8:48pm.

I joined chess.com primarily because my father, brother, and uncle are all members.  I saw it as an opportunity to spend time with family and share in something we all have in common.

I am clearly the lesser player in the family, but I can still give them all a good game.  I am pleased with myself for having achieved a victory against each of them.  I know they will all put me back in my place.  I'm just proud that my determination helped me pull off victories against these superior players.

No one in my family, and I have a zillion uncles, aunts (why aren't those ever mentioned, by the way? and cousins, ever played chess.  My uncles are all excellent bridge players.  They often play together or with friends until wee hours in the morning, which drives whoever of my aunt is the unfortunate hostess that day completely nuts.

I never did experience any interest for card games.  As far as I'm concerned, chess is THE one and only game. I'm not good at it but I have a lot of determination and the strong wish to improve.  So, who knows?

I simply LOVE this site.    Smile

I too joined because of my father.  Jerry, my brother, joined later.  My dad taught us how to play at an early age and encouraged us.

With my dad in tow, I played in several tournaments throughout elementary school and won most of them.  This gave us a common interest as I was growing up.

Although I am nowhere near the player I once was, I still enjoy the game.

With our family scattered across the nation, this has been the common thread that is tying our family together again.

Win or lose, I am glad to be a member of Chess.com.

Glad to see your enjoying your chess. This is a great site to play on and learn from.  I to have my father, sister, brother and brother in law playing on this site. its indeed a great way to chat to family especially dad for me since he is in Sydney most of the time. I'm the best in my family though by a long way hahaha. I know your going to get better and beat them more often u seem to be determined enough to do it. Have fun and welcome to the chess.com family.
