Jim West Talks Chess: Double Bishop Sacrifice

Recently I played this game where I sacrificed my bishops to force a winning queen versus rook ending.

great game...and i thought that black started really excellent, but white finally deserved the win....not only because of the great sacrifices but because it is relative the fact that 2 Bishops are 6 points and one rook 5....

Great game really enjoyed it, looked dangerous for you in the opening but you were very patient, kept the fireworks under control, and played the endgame superbly.  Bravo!

I was at this event, and I saw the position at about move 40 and figured it was a win for Black with some technical difficulty.

I came back just before move 50 and wondered how you had managed to "lose" one of the Bishops.

The resulting K+Q vs K+R ending could have been difficult, but White's K was not well placed to defend it.

beautiful... I believe you had a winning endgame even keeping the bishops, but that was a nice and simple way to finish it. It takes some guts and precision to go for sacrifices like that.

Very nice... the pawns on the sixth are deadly weapons.
