My Plan

Once I became Platinum I started thinking more of what the future of the group will be once it gets bigger.  This is my way of letting you in on what I want to do.  I will create a series of tournys that may be going on at the same time.  The types are listed below:

<1500

<1600

<1800

<2000

>1700

Open

Intro Invite

Slow and Relaxed Play

This last one is for any members who are slow players so they can also get a chance to play in a tourny.  Some of you fast players may want in some of these also but be warned, they may take some months to complete.  These slower tournys will ignore item 2 of the tourny guidelines.

Once we have enough members to fill up each type, I will create that tourny type and send out invites.  Then I will wait until at least 8 players are registered for an individual tourny and then start it.  Once I start one I will create another tourny of its type and send out invites ASAP.  This way there should always be one tourny running and one available to register in for each type.  I will send out invites to all members on the culled member list for each tourny.  This way if your rating drops you may be able to get in one you couldn't before.  Plus, it is easier for me to do it that way.  So hang on to the invites.  If you delete it by accident. or whatever, and then want another invite just send me a message and I will send you another.  The only exceptions to universal invites will be the Intro Invites, which are mostly for newbies, and the Slow and Relaxed Play which is mainly for the slower playing players.

Eight is the magic number and it is set by chess.com.  Any tourny with less than 8 players only gives out a first place medal.  8 or more give medals for places 1-3.  I don't use tiebreakers so more players have a chance to tie for a medal.  Some tournys may hand out 4 medals or more depending on how many tie.  At least that is my understanding.  So if you want to get in a specific tourny then sign up before 8 are in or you may have to wait for the next one.  For rating ranges at the lower scale I may make the number of players in the tourny smaller just to get one going.  For example:  If we only have 4 <1200 players in the group then once they all sign up the tourny will start.

Current example:  I have created a <1600 event with 5 signed up.  Once I see at least eight have registered I will start the tourny and then immediately create another one of its type and send out the invites.  This way there will always be lots of tournys to play in and sign up for.

I want every member here to enjoy himself, if they want to, and possibly win a medal if they want to try for one.  I don't know how long it will take to get enough members for this to work smoothly but you may have noticed we are having slow but steady growth and I plan on keeping it that way for quite a while.

Any thoughts you want to share with the group on this please feel free to reply to this topic.
