Jeremy Silman - ever read any of his books? - The Amateur's Mind, How to Reassess Your Chess, The Reassess Your Chess Workbook, Complete Book of Chess Strategy, or his End Game Strategy book? I have read all but the last, multiple times. Great stuff. Easy to read, instructive, friendly and funny in tone. All that is needed is a small cheap board to follow along the many instructional lines. I noticed that Jeremy Silman has contributed to this site, specifically in the tactics trainor and chess mentor. I encourage all beginners - amateurs to try them out.
