The analysis Board

Is it ethical to use the analysis board durring a game? I might just be old fashioned, I had thought that using any device or program durring a game is wrong , but a freind told me I should .I would like to know what eveyone elses oppinion about this is. I just look and see the board and try to see in my mind what I think is coming or what the best move is and then ......I win or I lose . After the game I can allways anylize it and try to learn from my mistakes.I thought that using this kind of stuff is unfair and a bad habit.........but .is it .The friend that told me has a better rating than I do.He usualy beats me. What do I know?

actualy terry, I treid it out. I found as my other friend said that durring a game you can select the moves tab and use the analysis board.This enables you to try diferent moves and see what might work.You have to think of what your oppenent might do, but , the difference is that you can see it right in front of you.All your mental processes now become clear.They are right there. I don't know that I feel this is a good habit though, because I want to be able to think of these moves and possition and be right without looking at a board.

In "correspondence" chess, as it's sometimes called, you are allowed to move the pieces around to decide what you want to do. If you have them, you can also use chess opening books, databases, in fact pretty much anything is ok EXCEPT using a computer program to help you pick your moves (or any other human assistance - you're meant to be playing on your own).

If you are playing over the board you cannot use an analysis board but if your game is adjourned there is nothing to stop you . I am like you I play these games as I see them - some people take it far too seriously
