Yes and no, the tournament points are separate. But every game you win or lose affects your rating just like normal rated...

One thing to remember if you withdraw before tournament starts, it shows in your tournament stats (not important), but if you withdraw from a tournament after it started it affects your timeout stats

Try a few tournaments, they are fun. But most of the large one never seem to finish (although it finished for me fairly quickly)
