Winning or losing is a habit
I had not played any chess for a long time until I joined this site. I started well against the lower rated players and quickly reached 2000.
Enthusiasm regendered I entered the 60th year celebrations of the Paignton Congress. I didn't do badly, but I couldn't force thru the wins and ended with a record of 1/2/4 for 3/7.
Returning to this site from playing fairly well I was hopeless. The groups finished and I had to play better players, most of them over 2000. They beat me, but these losses hit hard and I began losing to people of all grades and my rating dropped as low as 1735. Eventually more first rounds gave me wins and a really good win against 2020 changed things. Now I was winning again and this got better and better until the incredible run I am currently in which has taken my rating back to 2046. Habit.
I am not here for the next week because I am playing the Paignton Congress again this year from Sunday 4th Sept to Saturday 11th Sept. I hope this does not precede a calamitous decline similar to laast years. We shall see.

Paignton Congress 2011 was much better for me than the 3/7 achieved in 2010.
