Sudbury Fall 2008 - Kiviaho - Guignard

Submitted by PeskyGnat on Sun, 06/14/2009 at 3:47pm.

Here's my game against Bob Kiviaho from the Sudbury Fall 2008 tournament, as requested :).  I played my usual Alekhine's Defense and managed to get into a rather drawish position with perhaps a very small advantage.  Kiviaho decided to try and imbalance things by sacrificing a few pawns to break things open, but it was not enough and I was able to manage a win in the time scramble.

hey Michael,

Thanks so much for posting this game! It was a fantastic win and I absolutely love the Alekhine's Defense, and it seems we play similarly against the 4 pawns. I have to say I'm glad you had to play a tiring ending marathon to win this game, or the question of who would be Sudbury Champion would have been much more debatable. Maybe this time around I will have to get Kiviaho first to even out the odds!
