A successful kingside attack

Here's a game I played a few days ago, where my kingside attack worked very well. Black got in trouble after the unnecessary 15... Nxg7? where 15... Kxg7 made more sense. with 16. Qh6 I started making his life uncomfortable, and with 17. Bf1! I then repositioned my bishop to a more active diagonal. After 18... Kh8 my knights only had one goal, which is going to g6 and mating black. With 21. f4 I prevented black from playing 21... Qg5, solving most of his problems, and it also threatens 22. h3. Then after 21... Ng7 22. f5! it's immediately over, since black can only prevent 23. Ng6 by playing 22... gxf5, and after 23. Nf4 there was no stopping my attack anymore.

Actually, erik, it's good you mention it! I was very uneasy with the move f4 as well, since it really opens up my king. If my attack doesn't crash through afterwards, I'm in big trouble. I thought for a long time about my f4 move, looking at lines where black plays Rg8, giving up the exchange but getting compensation.

But in the end I decided 21. f4 must be good. All lines seemed to work out well for me. The simple 22. h3 is just a killing threat, and both his 21... Ng7, allowing 22. Qh5 next, and 21... Rg8 seem to fail. 21... Ng7 was refuted in the game, while 21... Rg8 22. Bxg8 Rxg8 23. f5 still threatens 24. N(x)g6+. So he has to play 22... Kxg8, when I think white's best choice is to regroup and try to convert the material advantage instead of trying to attack. White should be better though.

I was very happy it succeeded too. I've played lots of games where a kingside attack didn't work out, but those aren't interesting enough to post here ;)
