Endgame Puzzle: July 15, 2009

"If you like the puzzles . . . track me :-)."

For more in depth coverage, track me from my homepage and check out the "Engames for Dummies Like Me" series on my page's content.

Can you name this great endgame player?

Hint: (born June 25, 1975)  Russian GM. He was Classical World Chess Champion from 2000 to 2006, and undisputed World Chess Champion from 2006 to 2007.

Quote: "I am convinced, the way one plays chess always reflects the player's personality. If something defines his character, then it will also define his way of playing. "

*Disclaimer - Some of the problems have multiple solutions.  However, I will give the solution that I feel is an easier pattern to recognize or better technique.  Further, depending on the level of difficulty, sometimes I will not give the optimal response to try to imitate human play.  If you click the move list and solution, sometimes I will insert alternate moves and explanations (check and see).  I welcome discussion and feel free to ask or answer a person's question on the message boards! *

Hope you enjoy!

Chessfully,

Pete

It was a draw.  But Kramnik just beat him in the prestigious Dortmund Tournament.  The ending was nasty!
