Anand: A Blitz Kid

Submitted by RahulSharma on Fri, 11/14/2008 at 9:35am.

While I was in Agra, I used to play at district level. Talking to other players I once got to know an interesting titbit about Anand. While he was still quite young, he had been competing for National B championship. It was the final round of the championship and he needed just half a point to emerge champion. One Mr. Sadik Ali, a senior player and Uttar Pradesh champion was his opponent. Assured of crown, Anand offered draw but Mr. Sadik Ali refused. To this Anand responded, "Okay uncle, now I'll defeat you." Needless to talk about the result which went Anand's way. So this was the genius whom the world salutes today. Long live Vishy!
