The unfortunate event of making a match unrated

I often play this person, and more often than not, I lose. So for once, I decided to play an unrated game against him as I was losing rating points each time (1 win, 18 loses). It started fine, but it soon became apparent that my king was largely undefended and I was running out of options. I looked for ways out, defensive maneuvers etc. but saw 1 attacking option that "may just work", with pure luck it turned out that my attack at the start, which was staled, would win me the match, I moved Qxh2 and won the game. As it was only my second win and he is a much better player, I was overjoyed, but then realised that I had set an unrated game, thus losing out on 36 rating points. I have now vowed to never chicken out again, and play only rated games from now on, this could lead to my demise or rise to glory, only time will tell...
