The Moniker

So a couple of you have asked about the name Sarthe.  Where did it come from?  The answer is actually a bit embarassing, but what better way to endear yourself to new friends and strangers alike than by showing how foolish you can be?

I have been playing an online fantasy role-playing game for some years now.  When I first started, the 'job' that I wanted to work toward was best played by an all female race.  So when deciding what name to use, I wanted to use mine if possible, but with a 'female' twist.  Basically a 'She' 'Art'.  But that came out Sheart and just didn't feel right.  So I tried the various 'insertions'.  Almost settled on Sharte and still like that one, but ultimately decided on S(art)he.

I should probably end this simple story here, but I may as well admit to the worst of it.  Fact is, I LOVED the idea of getting into the 'role-playing' aspect of this game.  The result is after 5 years on the server, there isn't a single sole there that thinks I'm anything but a female in real life.  The upside is I have gained an insight into women that all men should be taught.  Both the good and the bad.  (If you fellas think you're conversations can get a little raunchy, I'm here to tell you that you are choirboys compared to the the conversations I've been in on when it's just me and the girls!)  In any case, after three proposals of marriage, offers to 'cyber' on a daily basis, and generally having to 'prove' myself over and over again in spite of being one of the best players on the server, I have one thing to say to any women reading this:

BLESS YA!  I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT!

Anyway, if any of you also have some odd stories revolving around the names you've chosen, I would love to hear about them.

Warwind,

It's not that I necessarily have anything against giving that information out, except that your question makes me ponder if you are curious because you also play such a game and may have run across me! - Yikes - Would hate to have my cover blown after all these years - But why not? - They say confession is good for the soul - Not exactly sure who 'they' are though

Anyway it's actually a MMORPG - FFXI - Fortunately they have many, many servers with many, many thousands of players per server, so the chances are that even if you play this game, we have probably never met - On the other hand, you may have been the last of my three 'proposals'! - I won't tell if you don't!  Embarassed
