A really close game

Submitted by Spike_Mason on Fri, 05/30/2008 at 9:22am.

I feel that this has got to be the best game I've played in a long time. It came really close at the end, and my opponent made some good moves with good tactics. Even if I had lost, I would have been truly grateful for the game.

A nice victory.  I noticed a few things on both sides....

After, 20. G6 is claustrophobic indeed.  The set up with two pawns above the black king kept you in back rank mate danger, and it only gets intensified when the white knight strenghtens that hold.  However, your defense was strong, and white's plan wasn't this.

Secondly, I believe you could have achevied mate within a couple of moves, if after 30. Rb1.  You with drew your bishop back, but, I was impressed with how you pushed the pawn, eventually using it for the mate which is always supreme.

Here is what I saw, after 30. Rb1..........Qxc3.  Captures the bishop, pins the pawn to the king, preventing your bishop from being captured, and your bishop is in a tremendous spot to assist the queen with the mate, and, depending on the oppenents defense, the rook can be sacrficed for mate.

 Thanks for sharing the game
