Upgrades?

To all Chess.com members,

I truly enjoy being able to play chess online with people from all around the world, but I'm starting to get annoyed by all of these applications getting converted to "Platinum Members or Higher Only." I joined this site because it offered what I wanted: to play chess without a rip-off subscription. I'm starting to get worried that this site might be headed for something like instantchess.com, where you have to buy a subscription for a limited number of games, which is ridiculous.

I understand that the site needs funding for all of the new stuff being put into it, but there has to come a point where such additions are superfluous.

To be completely fair to chess.com's owners, they have always been clear that playing chess will always be free at chess.com.  Before subscriptions were introduced they marked certain features to say they may become available only to paying subscribers and that's exactly what has now happened.

I don't think there's any danger of subscriptions being introduced just to play.  I would guess that the site would have to be in severe financial problems to contemplate that.
