Mate in 2

Submitted by Stanislaus on Tue, 12/02/2008 at 7:43pm.

I came across this chess puzzle in Monday's local paper. Its supposed to be a mate in two but the best I can come up with is a mate in three.  Obviously white's superior material advantage make this a no-brainer for a win but for my feeble mind I just fall asleep after staring at the position for hours on end.  Does anyone see the mate in two?

Thank you.  I could of stared at the position for a thousand years and still probably would not have the answer.  If I was patient they would have given the answer in next week Monday's paper but that leaves the possibility which is more like a probability that I do not get next week's paper.  Gracias.

I almost did.  Seems the silly King just keeps slipping away... :(

EDIT:  My little brother who had more time to waste than I did found the answer.

1. Kb2.

If 1... Kb4, then 2. Qa3##

If 1... Kxb6, then Nd5##

If 1... Kd4 or d6, then Qd5##
