another game with a chess.com friend 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 ryan's usual choice, the scotch game 3... exd4 the continuation i always choos 4. Nxd4 as usual 4... Bc5 5. Be3 Qf6 ( 5... Nf6 6. Nxc6 bxc6 7. Bxc5 Nxe4 8. Bd4 and white is up a piece with little comensation for black ) 6. c3 my only way to defend his night which is now under heavy attack. still, this also keeps a strong center 6... Nge7 continuing with development and looking to castle 7. g3 a fianchettod bishop would be strong in the possition because black has no pawns in the center 7... d5 8. Bg2 continuing with his plan 8... dxe4 9. Nd2 ( 9. Bxe4 O-O 10. O-O I think this would have been better for white ) 9... Bxd4 10. cxd4 O-O 11. Nxe4 taking that way as intended is better than Bxe4 because this fources the queen to move off of the powerful f6 square where the queen not only has a long diagnol but also attacks the weak f2 11... Qg6 12. O-O white has a fairly solid position now, but the d4 pawn if weak, but black will have trouble taking advantage of that 12... Be6 a strong move taking control of the middle, might be able to challange g2 bishop 13. Nc3 avoiding 13...Bd5, but this is also where whites possition looks worse  13... Rad8 14. Re1 Nb4?! looking to fork on c2, but a waisted move 15. Qa4 Nbc6 back to where the night started... and now black starts looking to be worse off 16. Rad1 Bd5 takes the strong bishop 17. Bxd5 ( 17. f3as good as not having the bishop ) ( 17. Nxd5 Nxd5 and white has little good play here ) 17... Nxd5 18. Nxd5 Rxd5 no other options 19. Rc1 Ra5 20. Qb3 h6 21. Qxb7 Rxa2 22. Rxc6 Rxb2 23. Qxc7 Qf5 24. Qxa7 Re8 25. d5 Qxd5 26. Qc5 Qe4 27. Rc8 Rxc8 28. Qxc8+ Kh7 29. Qc5 Rb1 30. Rxb1 Qxb1+ 31. Qc1 Qd3 32. h4 f6 33. Kg2 Qd5+ 34. Kh3 Qf5+ 35. Kh2 g5 36. hxg5 hxg5 37. Qc7+ Kg6 38. f4 g4 39. Qc5 Qd3 40. f5+ Kh5 41. Qa7 Qe2+ 42. Bf2 Kg5 43. Qg7+ Kh5 44. Qg6#

I still think 9.Nd2 is better than Bxd4. That pawn can't be saved without seriously weakening your position, so I'm in no rush to take it. Nd2 develops a piece and keeps my bishop on g2, a good square for it for now. It was a good game and I think you were better until Nb4? I then think h6 was bad as it lost a pawn, and of course Rxa2 was bad as it lost the knight. As you were down in material, exchanging rooks on move 29 was probably not the best choice. You still had chances though in the endgame as I played less-than-stellar moves. I think you should have taken my pawn on move 38, as you should exchange pawns when down. On move 40, Qxf5! would have drawn the game. Although you generally shouldn't exchange pieces when down, I think the endgame would be drawn as you had a pawn for my bishop. Despite my material edge, I doubt there was a way to convert that to a win. 42 Kh6 may have allowed you to keep the draw as well. GG, and GL in the future.
