Strangely enough, I’ve never been much on television….unless it’s an extremely interesting story or fascinating mystery. But here lately, I’m having a bit of a time getting away from chess.com to READ! I hate to admit this. Does anyone think that chess is just as beneficial as reading? Or perhaps, I need to balance it all out a bit more? Let me know. . . . if you’re having this same problem as of late.

I read every moment I can..ever since I was a little boy I have been reading and collecting books.  I used to belong to a group on reading and one of the questions asked was how many books has one read in a lifetime..I was astonished when most people said around a hundred or so and thought maybe I'm a little strange..I've read thousands of books.

I read anything that strikes my intrests and have books on a wide varity of subjects, my favorite are any book I can fall into and get lost for hours in..

I don't really use computers or the internet much until I found chess.com..I feel guilty spending so much time playing chess online but what can I do..I love the game and I have had no body to play in 25 years.

Anyway..enough of my ramblings..

I play chess a lot.  Online and in otb tournaments. I have 3 chess computers and over 100 books. I think chess is good for the mind. But I don't think chess compares to reading in overall benefit.

Chess themes in literature...I have noticed lots of chess pieces on those Twilight posters . . .now this is something to consider! Thanks, Sitting Pawn!

I have more of a problem reading, for me it's a struggle. To keep me interested I read books with chess themes! Currently I'm reading The Fire which is a sequel to The Eight by Katherine Neville. If you like mysteries, these two are great books.  On the subject of better for you? Both have great bennefits, so you can't go wrong but they work different parts of the brain. Moderately work both into your daily routine and you'll be fine, even if one side is more heavily weighted.
