I hate falling for this old trick!

In the beginning of your game, move your queen to h5. Then after your opponent moves, take the pawn on e5 in your next move. Now the rook is ripe for the picking . . . because your opponent has to worry about protecting the king.

That's called a fork. Only novices fall for that particular one. You can use forks throuout the game though.
