One of the reasons I play here instead of other places is people like Sonia. Recently Sonia pointed out some issues with certain people in chat and the sometimes slow response of those with the power to boot people in cases where the problem seems to be one of mere personal insult.

I think that the mods do a very good job and are sincere at trying to make this place into what it is trying to be.  Many others here try to help the trolls either move along or stop but often when there is no mod present certain people begin to abuse the site almost immediately. 

This has prompted some of the very best people to limit their chat and effectively turns it over to the trolls.  My personal "favorite" is where I am advised by a mod to "block" a troll who is actively being abusive to me or to others. While that may be a solution to my seeing their nonsense it does nothing to stop others from seeing it as it continues unabated. 

In defense of the mods in some ways this is sort of like being a referee in a basketball game, one guy gives you a nasty elbow while the ref isn't looking and when you react to that the ref only sees your reaction to it.  

Anyway maybe there ought to be some "magic words" so to speak that when such things are uttered in main chat and a mod is alerted to it and confirms it, the cancelling of an account is not only instantaneous but affected by a mod instead of staff and just as permanent. I also think that this business of 30 min muting is too short. If someone is behaving in a way as to merit a muting, it ought to be for at least 8 hours.
