Hello!

I think all of you like to listen to some good classical music! I have uploaded the most recent video of my dad - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zef2ZeN-1no . Hope you will enjoy this little piece of art!

Best wishes,

Yelena

Beautiful. Wow. I am always amazed by pianists. How they can use two hands independently amazes me. You must be very proud of him.

Also, enjoying your Grunfeld Book. Went through the few chapters and it was very instructive. I have played a couple of grunfelds here at chess.com and by going through some of the move sequences and seeing how they are picked apart and the possibilities it has helped my play--at least I think it did, I'm no yelena! I had one of the games analyzed by the chess computer here at chess.com and that was interesting too--seeing what the machine said my inaccuracies were, also instructive.

All the best

Darius

Nice video. I grew up in New Jersey on a steady dose of Punk Rock. I will always consider myself a punk fan, but for some reason chess and classical music seem to go together well. Dunno why.

My dad is a professional pianist who graduated from Lenigrad's Music academy and stadied music in school, academy over 18 years. Of course, he regularly performed till about year of 2000. Now he is 60 years old and doesnt perform so often already but still plays every day:-)

I'm impressed with your Dad's performance of Debussy's "faux d'artifice".  That piece requires a lot of technique as well as a thorough understanding of what "impressionistic" piano music is all about. Translated literally, the term means "fireworks".  The performer must be able to vividly create an image, a feeling, a picture, if you will, of being engulfed in fireworks while also being in a trance, or in a state of utter amazement.  Is your Dad a professional pianist or does he teach piano at a university?  I too play the piano, but professionally I am an accountant & tax attorney. Although my profession provides me with a halfway decent livelihood, my heart is (and always has been) elsewhere... with classical piano, chess and other fine things that make life worth living.  I used to play in OTB chess tournaments at the expert/master level when I was in college, but professional & family obigations have long since pulled me away from the tournament arena. I look forward to listening to more piano performances by your Dad. I'm even thinking of doing my own U-Tube performace of Chopin's Ballade #2 in F Major. I'll let you know when it's ready to go.

Thanks for that, Yelena.

There was no television in Oz while I was growing up and the main home entertainment was radio (we still called it wireless, back then).  But the generation before mine didn't even have radio,  The lucky (well-to-do?) families had pianos or pianolas and everybody used to gather around and sing along.  There were still a few of those around during my childhood and your clip took me right back there.

I enjoyed it.  Smile
