Crushing Maneuver

Submitted by kenytiger on Tue, 08/26/2008 at 10:17am.

Kristian Skold from Stockholm, Sweden, was Swedish Chess Champion in 1949, 1950, 1959 and 1963. He gives us a tasty demonstration of his talent in the following game played in 1963. He sacrifices all his Queen-side pawns and obtains a decisive attack against the enemy King. Black resists alright, but he can only resist so much.

Sacrificing 2 Pawns was a daring move by White, BUT nonetheless it paid off. : )

Very daring of white to sac two pawns early, end game was lucky to work, it would not have worked against Fischer.

Okay. Yes, this is obviously the sort of post that belongs in the 'amazing games' section. It just doesn't make much sense to me that there is an articles section for individual games.

TonightOnly, I do appreciate your concern but I disagree with you to a point:

Under "Articles" there is a section called "Amazing Games" what are we supposed to post there?

Why do you post these in the articles section. There is a 'game showcase' forum. An article should be comprised of information about a topic relating to chess: an endgame technique, the life of a chess great, etc. Do you guys agree?

Cool game, who neads pawns...? I don't understand 19...Qa6 though, seems like it just removes the queen from any usefull position when black should have been seeking to exchange queens asap.

Thanks for posting.  Very impressive.  Would love to see some analysis of this game.  I reckon 19 ...Qa6 itself was a blunder, as with all the defensive moves after.  With 3 pawns up Black should be looking to exchange pieces and tried to gain back centre control.  Thoughts?

white with a fortunate break takes advantage with the queen  and bishop, then its not enough and his rooks charge to the rescue, chance favors the prepared mind
