The Mother of All Bongclouds

Submitted by polleke on Wed Dec 3, 2008 3:50am.

Sir George Alan Thomas. His name may not ring a bell… To me he was a total stranger until I stumbled on some of his chess games. In an attempt to spice up my chess life I bought a number of books on (to me) unorthodox chess openings. One of thes... Read more »

LG. Again.

Submitted by ishcairn on Wed Dec 3, 2008 12:47am.

Finally got to play another game in the LG.  My enjoyment of this opening is deepening.  It's hardly something I'd play against a GM, but I haven't played any GMs lately.  I can certainly see why there is an avid community of players taking adv... Read more »

Mate in 2

Submitted by Stanislaus on Tue Dec 2, 2008 7:43pm.

I came across this chess puzzle in Monday's local paper. Its supposed to be a mate in two but the best I can come up with is a mate in three.  Obviously white's superior material advantage make this a no-brainer for a win but for my feeble mind I... Read more »

Submitted by Fierce_Br on Tue Dec 2, 2008 6:43am.

An important part of any strategy is the counter-attack. It's an excellent defense, overwhelming and, when used correctly, far better than a retreat. But it's not always the best option. Sometimes other defenses are necessary. In a recent game, as... Read more »
