Sometimes famous games typecast the participants.  Anderssen, a brilliant player who gave us the Immortal Game and the Evergreen Game, has been highly rated over the years despite his fluctuating results. In the case of the Evergreen Game, Anderssen's opponent, Jean Dufresne, has been the personification of a loser. Nothing could be further from the truth.  Dufresne, born in Berlin, was 23 when, playing black, lost that 24 move Evans Gambit to the famous master from Breslau.  When Dufresne was 22, that is, the year prior, Dufresne, also playing black, handed Anderssen a humiliating defeat with this totally brilliant 13 move (by resignation) Ruy Lopez.
