A Picturesque Position

Efim Petrovich Geller (1925-1998) was one of the great Soviet chess masters. He played in the Candidates events an amazing 6 times, and had a positive or equal score against many of the greatest masters of his time.

In this game, the new world champion Karpov decided to play the French Defense for the first time in his life. Let's see what came of it...

Geller was one of Karpov's seconds in the World Championship matches vs. Kasparov.

THat's a seriously entertaining game. Thanks for the post! Sure Karpov played a bit sloppy, but the way Geller took advantage of some loose moves was chess of the highest order.
