Contest #1

Submitted by benws on Fri, 07/04/2008 at 7:26am.

I've decided to start a contest. I'll give you a chess problem, and you have to name the "key"- the first move that leads to checkmate no matter what black plays. no cheating- if you've seen this before, no answering. and no using anything except a board & pieces-no internet.

The winner will recieve a prize! :) i will post a comment when the key move is found. no winners yet.

EDIT: Contest #1 goes to diomed1!

    Qf1, the problem's tough because of the kings ability to take whites knight but then you get a TRIPLE PIN Qf5 for checkmate

@tbonius:

It does work. Chek it out. Also see move list for variations

@ Boobyfisher8008:

1.Nf4 is not the answer. Black can prevent mate in 2 with 1...Rd6.

Knight to f4 is the solution.  Let me repeat Knight to F4 diagonal between the two kings.  No matter what black does he is checkmated in the next move he can be check mated in several different combinations depending on what black does, but there is no way out of it regardless even if black sacks a piece.  As always have a great day!

1. Nd4

If 1... Rxd4 or 1... Qxe1 then 2.Qe6#

If 1... Rd6 or 1...Nc7 then 2.Nf3#
