Locked Dore

This is another game from the 19th century. It is filled with sacrifices, as white literally throws away his entire army for the mate. I know it is far from a perfect game, but it is still fun to watch. The final position is also somewhat incredible.

I have only pulled Philidor's mate twice, but the way that guy used it was brilliant!

11...Nb6   12.Nxe7 Nxe7   13. Bf4 d6 and Black is winning with his extra piece and two pawns.

12. Bf4 and White still has chances.

13...fxg5?? is the losing move.  Instead, 13...Kf8   14.Nxe7 Nxe7   15.Qh5  Qe8 and White's attack is foiled with Black's material advantage enough to win.

That game was ridiculous. White just got lucky.  If Black had made some better moves, he could have won with his extra material for sure.

Rubbish game. And that position is pretty standard.
