Here is a brilliant miniature by Alekhine. After outplaying his opponent in the opening, he unleashes a devastating series of moves that in the end, leads to the black king being quietly trapped on his own rank.

Chigorin adopts a unique style in this game, seemingly getting crushed by the opening he employs and giving up his queen, leaving his king exposed. And yet, he fights back, regaining all the lost material with interest.

This game apparently is even through the first 20 moves or so, but Cukierman quickly heats things up by breaching through the fortress, sacrificing almost all his pieces, and finishes with a picturesque mate.

At last, something to be proud of. White's dashing attack proves too much for Donner, and he goes down after a queen sac. And it is interesting that this opening is now called the Chinese Variation...

Later in his life, Tal was still able to play great chess. In the early '80s he produced a series of 80 wins without a defeat. This is one of those games, involving a highly complicated struggle.

Wang Yue pulls off an endgame trick in this game. When it looks as if black has equalized, he gives up the exchange to tie up the opposing forces. Then his remaining pieces make short work of the black king.
