I can't say I've noticed much of a correlation between the number of points a poster has and the value of his comments.  Say, aren't you one of the guys who typically responds "easy" to the Daily Puzzle?  Case in point... 

Seriously, eliminating the point system would improve this Web site.  For sure, it would greatly reduce the trite comments.
