Willy Iclicki was born in Belgium on January 12, 1955 and later settled in Monaco. In 1988-89 he was the organizer of the Iclicki Master tournaments. He was elected FIDE Treasurer in 1990 and served until 1999. He was editor of Echess from 1990 to 1991 and editor of FIDECHESS from 1992 to 1998. In 1992, he organized the Zonal 1 tournament. In 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2001 he was a member of the organizing committee of the World Chess Championships and served as chairman of the FIDE World Championship Cycle Committee. In 2002, he was the author of the FIDE Golden Book 1924-2002. In 2007, he participated in the European Team Championship, held in Greece, playing for Monaco on board 3. His best ELO (FIDE) rating was 2305. He is currently working on a very comprehensive chess encyclopedia, and I am providing some assistance in proof-reading.
Last month, he defeated Grandmaster Boris Gelfand in a simul held in Jerusalem (Gelfand won 32, lost 2, and drew 3). Although Gelfand blundered a piece, Willy played a new idea in the opening. Here is that game.
