Please forgive me .....

Submitted by blackfirestorm666 on Mon, 11/02/2009 at 2:34pm.

I have been a smoker now for almost 20 years smoking from 10 cigs a day up to 30 a day. I have stopped smoking now since this morning not had a single one.

I have tried many times before to stop, the first attempt lasted just 5 days and my last attempt almost 10 weeks.

I am taking some medication known as "champix" which is meant to alleviate cravings and help with the process of stopping. But during the course of the day my cravings have got worse and worse.

Yes, I am snappy!

Yes, I am very irritable!

Yes, I am likely to bite your head off for no apparent reason!

All I can say to those who I already have snapped at is I am sorry and I am not doing this on purpose, and also to apologise to those I may snap on in the next couple of days. Cry

This will get better and easier but all I ask is that you please be patient with me.

I have to admit though today I have had the biggest craving so far ...

I was in the park with my children and they was playing with some other kids there...

I was talking with their dad and he actually offered me a cig Surprised

Shit man the urges I had to say yes and take it had me sweating and my heart thumping Cry

It is now over 12 weeks since I stopped smoking and while I am still getting cravings it is nothing like what they used to be so I think it is safe to say "I BEAT IT"!!!!!!

I know I don't really know you, just as a friend here at Chess.com. However, I'm proud of you! You're an inspiration, as well.

Welcome to the "Former Smokers" club. : )

UPDATE:

Well today sees me as having been stopped smoking for 3 weeks and 2 days and the time is flying by now ...

I am still taking my tablets but I am using nothing else (NRT)

I occasionally get a craving which gets dealt with by a sugar free mint ...

I am still eating chocolate but nowhere near as much as I was at the start.

My house smells cleaner and my health has improved in that I am not getting out of breath as quickly as I was.

I have 4 pages of support from all my very dear friends and even some from people who I have not spoke to. So thank you all so very much Kiss

Lemon and dill marinated wild Salmon on brown rice with lightly steamed veggies tonight. Yum!

The cost of the meal for my wife and I? Probably less than the cost of a pack and a half of smokes. :)

No fruit though. Grocery store run tomorrow...

Oh, Panmumu, pu-leeze!!!!! What on earth would you want in IHOP??? Their food is the most unhealthy, unappetizing on earth!!!!!! Get thee some fresh fruit and veggies and eat them raw and think how good they are.

As for you, Donna -- keep up the good work!!

We're all proud of you to want a better fresher life health! ^_^ (You can always bite my head off..)

My Tips are .. Salt! and C-Vitamin.

When you get the urge.. Dip your tip of your tongue in salt. It will give your brain the correct impulses to what you need. You only need to taste it, not consume it.

Eat 500~1000mg C-Vitamins everyday. Try to find the neutral one. Will help with mood swings. Keep you happy and cold/flu free.

Next is to change your habits. Instead of smoke you think about burpees, yes this is an exercise you can do any where any time. Not only will it make you not want to think about what you been doing last 20 years.. It will also get you in shape! For long living!

Last thing to see results is to put money in a jar that you would spend on it instead. Lets fill the money jar!

Cheers! If you have any questions please ask!
