What is the first opening you learn? Do most players start off learning the Spanish and the Sicillian or some other Europe-based opening.

Isn't the spanish and the RuyLopez the same.

I too started with the Spanish but quickly moved to the Scillian and the Ruy Lopez.

When you consider that the proliferation of openings with European names is a result of the long history of the development of opening theory there, it would make sense that most people do!
