Yes, this was a league match with my club, Pete's Potenitals, a group set up by bluechessmaster to introduce young juniors in bristol back into chess! I now play above Pete in the league now, playing Board 1 and not Board 2 :D

:D Don't worry about losing, I'm usually on Board 2, but Pete's playing me Board 1 now, so...

i think so. i moved from board 3 to board 1 this time...i think i will go down to board 2 for a few games to get my grounding before i try to run before i can walk again.

in my defence....i had been preping to play black and if white i was expecting/hoping for 2...e6 rather than c6. But i was told brfc was preping for the bird- so not really a defence there.

With hindsight, i wouldnt play 5. BB5, as i always play this far too early, 5...Ne4 is a move i always hate, so you did well there. and 6.Bh4 was a terrible move! followed by an even worse move 7.Rc1. i thought about playing 7.Qa4 which i thought would be the best move, but as i explained, for some unkown reason i thought i couldnt do this as i thought it would HAVE to go- 7...Nxc3. 8. bxc3 Qxc3 and i lose my rook in a fork. i dont know why i made this mistake...it reminded me of a game where Bacrot (i think) didnt see the simplest knight move and lost his queen in move 14 or something.

20.e5, i did have a thought of something here, indeed i am another pawn down, but i thought i might have been able to get a good position out of it- i didnt lol.

I think i was in trouble after move 7 tbh and tried to get into positions i thought neither of us had come into before, playing wold and hoping you would miss/slip up. It didnt happen and before i knew it i was 3 pawns down and going into an endgame- of which i have never one. Cedrik- help me there please!!

but, well played!

After 5. Bg5 I'd have played 5. ... e6 but your handling of the situation was fine.

7. Qb3 would have been white's best response.

After 12. Nxd2 white should be looking at doing something about the potentially awesome pawns on the queenside.  13. ... b5 looks good for black.

Exchanging off the bishops on e7 was nice, since white's remaining pieces are very poor co-ordinated and as you say castling was not needed.  Unfortunately, white didn't know that.

17. ... e5!? looks hard to play against.

20. ... Nxe5 was a nice spot and you played it very accurately.

If people were complaining about the h4, it was probably because the rook will have a hard time getting anywhere useful now.  I don't think you missed anything.

Good win that.  I think you played very well.  And the endgame was nicely handled.
