League Match 12/10/09

Submitted by brfc on Tue, 10/27/2009 at 3:51am.

This was me playing Bd 2 against Harambee!!!

I was white:

EDIT 1: Thanks mizaru (From puzzle Pirates!!!) for finding this move: e5 does work on move 25 for white. If 25.e5, dxe5, 26.fxe5, Bxe5 27. Qxe5!! And if Rxe5?? Rd8+!!! Re8, Rxe8#. And if gxh6, Qxe8! And I'm a rook up. I was under time pressure, but even in the analysis, I didn't see this!

Well fought and won!

You were lucky to get away with 10. Bb3. 10. ... b4 11. Ne2 Nxe4 would have left black ahead. Correct was 10. Bd3 overprotecting the e-pawn, so b4 is not dangerous. Same applies on the next move. 15. ... Nxe4 would have left black a good pawn up also.

18. Nxe5 was good. Black needed to prevent it with 17. ... Qc7 or 17. ... Rd8 (either rook). 27. Rxd6 is nice. 27. ... Qa8  and 27. ... h5 are not good enough.

Just shows the endgame matters more than the opening. Smile

Well done on the win.  18. Nxe5 was a nice tactical pawn win and 27. Rxd6 is thoroughly lovely.  I guess your opponent over-thought his response and just fell for a simple back rank mate.

I can see why your nearly top on form in the league though!
