Hi there!
I got involved in chess back in 2003 after a long lay off from the game. I guess chess would always find away back into someone's head after he has accomplished one of the major hurdles in life (college education).
Having read the book called inside Philippine Chess Volume 1 by Mr. Bobby Ang December of 2003, I thought I could go back playing chess again... and so I did.
But since I was working as a volunteer Occupational Therapist in our community during that while I was taking my Master's Course in Special Education, I did not have enough time to play OTB games nor read up on the vast literature of chess. What i did was to play free online chess games on MSN Zone, then ICC (free account) and RedHot Pawn.
After which, i went on to teach in an international school and still there at present heading the Special educationd department. I got the chance to start a chess club by 2005 for my after school activity.
From then on, scholastic chess has been in my mind. It helps a lot to continually study for these kids. Sharpening the saw and at the same time spreadaing the virus, err, chess love.
Scholastic chess should be, could be instituted here in the Philippine sbut again, the status of chess in the country is very much like the political climate of we have, unstable, greed-infested interests of the leaders from top to bottom.
Anyways, scholatic chess, the only way to go!
