Hyper Accelerated Dragon Fighting 5.Nxc6 While Singing

Submitted by chessmagic5 on Mon, 10/05/2009 at 11:34pm.

Greetings chess friends!

Today's topic is in response to chessman_calum's comment/request from my previous  blog post, Hyper Accelerated Dragon: White's Death By Simplification (where the Bc4 mainline was analyzed), that I should include an analysis on white's early exchange of knights on c6-square (5.Nxc6).

 No problem, my friend chessman_calum, let us scrutinize the position arising from 1.e4 c5  2.Nf3 g6  3.d4 cxd4  4.Nxd4 Nc6  5.Nxc6 below:

Ehr! What's with this white knight taking on c6? This reminds me of a story about a knight who is a bit too sea-sick (sounds like c6) to slay a mighty dragon! Yes, reminds me also of the song that goes like this: "Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Hannalee..."

As dragon wielders facing 5.Nxc6 should we get worried or maybe just laugh our guts out singing? Let's find out and start analyzing below:

There we go. As we saw black is doing alright and so I invite you all of you dragoneers out there to sing with me...

Play the video and all together now, sing!

keep me awake for analysis. buy me coffee.

Ok, instead of taking the pawn, couldn't white play Bd6 winning the rook?

chessman_calum,

Notice that black is a pawn up. He should be alright.

Thanks Joemz, What happens if white doesn't take the pawn, surely his position is better?

chessman_calum,

Thank you for the feedback. I guess you are talking about the 9.Bb3 line where the analysis ended at 15...Rc7. Ok I have now extended the analysis, see the annotated game again. Hopefully the extended analysis will be good enough for you to feel comfortable of the resulting position. Cheers!

Thanks Joemz! I was really looking forward to this article and appreciate the amount of time and effort you have put into it :).

I agree with zurca, I am also exploring this opening. I really like these articles, so clever and complex. Although, one thing I don't understand is, in your variation after move 9 (Re1), it finishes and ends up on move 15, it is still equal. It looks like white has an advantage!

Kind regards, Calum

This is an intresting game . Was wondering how Hyper would fit in smith-morra setup

1.) e4 c5

2.) d4
