The Potato(Ward's Folly)

Submitted by chuckward on Thu, 01/24/2008 at 4:19pm.

Today I started to play this interesting opening again,in hopes to write a small book about it.

 1.Nf3 d5

 2.a4 .....

I have been playing this opening on and off for about 11 years, favoring white in over 80% of my games. There are also a lot of transitions with Ward's Folly.Well thats is what I remember,I am searching through my game notes right as I write.

I call this Ward's Folly cause as far as I know I am the only chess player to play this opening seriously in tournaments and casual play.

The future will see how my new project goes.

The premature queenside move can easly fit in to a number of effective plans. It is a very hyper-mordern move that can transpose in to many openings

For me I play many openings,so I see what my opponent does and I transpose in to what I feel comfortable with.Kind of like Barzca's opening.

Yet if black plays an Indian it gets a whole persona of its own.

It looks ...interesting, to say the least. What is white's plan after a4?
