Wanna beat me? Play white!

I totally suck when playing black! I think it's my mindset; I do not enjoy being on the defensive from the get go. When I play black, in my mind I'm automatically thinking, "What can I do to screw up the moves White might make?" instead of playing more offensively to gain control of the board. White essentially has an automatic advantage having first move, therefore putting Black immediately on the defense, having to "catch up" to gain an edge over White. Apparently I can't handle that for some reason.

Hint to my opponents: If you want to beat me, play white!

it actually never dawned on me that white gets the first chance to screw up. i think i think way too much! thanks james... lol.. you crack me up

yo, Kris, if you're a football fan, think of chess as deferring to the second half. yes, white moves first, but, if you have good defense, it gives your opponent the first opportunity to foul up. when you play as black, just focus on your own defense. forget what they're doing, unless it's something completely radical, you should be fine. maybe also look at it as the perfect opportunity to learn to harden your defensive movements.... you about ready for a game? i'll play as black... lol
