Avoiding fools mate without losing much.

Im in a bad spot trading pawns actually brings out the bishop is there a way to avoid mate? If so whats the best way to do it without losing to much material?

Nd4 threatens Nxc2 with the fork, very strong, and White's queen is forced back to d1 to defend.

Consider also that after taking the pawn, if White responds with the bishop, then an activated bishop is really the extent of your troubles; the impending trade on f6 would now be fair and not result in a material disadvantage.  On the other hand, if White responds with the h-pawn, then you can trade rooks and draw your opponent's queen into the corner, away from the mating line.
